The Russian-English Dictionary of Proverbs and Sayings has been compiled fist and foremost
to meet the requirements of translators and interpreters as well as of other professionals
who have to translate from Russian into English.
They have been singled out on the grounds of the contemporary
understanding that proverbs and sayings are phraseological units of a sentence model which
contain a complete thought expressed in an aphoristic form.
Proverbs differ from sayings by the edifying and instructive nature of their meaning.
